First Times…

No… I am not giving an account of my first times… :D

Recently I read an interesting status update on how people face mid life crisis… typically after mid 20s and how boring and difficult life becomes post that. Marriage, job, monotony and blah blah blah….

So here is what I think....

As kids we were always so inquisitive and excited about small small things because they were new to us. Even a small toy car used to amaze us because we saw that for the FIRST TIME… you play with it till it breaks… Then a new one comes along… again there is excitement because the new one is different and you are experiencing that for the FIRST TIME… It could be a car, a toy , a G.I.Joe, a Barbie doll , a kitchen set or any damn thing… We were excited about all these small things when we were kids and the only reason we are so excited about it is because we see them for the first time…

Think and reflect back upon all such first times you ever had…

Your first steps (even though u don’t remember it you aren’t bored of walking now.)

Your first words…

Your first friend

Your first fight with your friend

Your first fight with your mom

Your first day at school

Your first result

Your first victory

Your first failure

Your first crush

Your first cycle

Your first accident

The first time you saw a movie

Your first video game

Your first bike

First time you drove at high speed

Your first car ride

The time when you were first ragged

Your first job interview

Your first job

Your first real adventure

Your first smoke

Your first drink

Your first hangover

Your first addiction

The first time when “Shit happened”

The first time you fell in love

Your first relationship

Your first break up

The first time you fell out of love

The first time you were rejected.

The first time you fell in love with the wrong person

The first time your heart broke

Your first kiss

Your first orgasm

First time you had sex

By the time you reach 25-26 you have had done most of these things…. Most of them… If you haven’t then its great… because you haven’t really missed out on many but you have plenty to look forward to in your life

Now problem arises when you have done almost all of it and then you begin to feel that there is nothing left for you to do than just tell stories to your kids about how awesome you were…

No … not true…. When we were 13, we hadn’t dreamt of things we would do when we would be 22… no… as kids most of us always wanted to be like our parents… but I am sure we all turned out to be quite different.

You don’t know how many exciting first times lie ahead of you and that is the reason why the mid life crisis arises… all the anxiety, apprehensions and all other negative emotions get the better of the child in us and it makes us what they call “boring adults”.

There are so many first times we haven’t seen ahead..

First marriage (ideally it should be the only one)

First honeymoon

First Big promotion

First time you get fired

First time you have office romance

First time you get a big fat salary

The first time you treat your parents with your own money

Your first house

Your first big CAR

Your first child

The first child actually revives the excitement in us I guess….

You first post 40 club

Your first anniversary

Your first signs of old age

First grey hair

We all don’t look forward to these things the way we used to look forward to the G.I.Joe we got when we were kids… Something somewhere terribly goes wrong and we start behaving in a very measure way…

Let go and embrace these experiences with the same curiosity and inquisitiveness as you do as a child and I am pretty sure the life post 26 will be boring… Infact its all the more exciting…

Standalone, Life is very very simple. It’s the human brain and experiences which complicates it. We hold on to the bad experiences too much and forget how exciting life can be if we just look at whatever comes our way positively and give it a shot… Let go… Live it up…

This however does not mean that we repeat our mistakes and do things which harm us or our loved ones.

All in all I hope my point is conveyed… Cheers to the future….
